Sometimes people suffer from obesity and other similar problems, as they are not careful about what they eat. Reducing your weight and bringing it to normal is the first step towards preventing serious illnesses that could severely affect you. You need to learn how to make the best choices regarding healthy foods, so here’s how: Starchy Foods for Start Specialists and nutritionists say that you should have starchy foods in your meals, in about one third. This means that you can have cereals, potatoes, bread, rice and pasta. To make sure you get the healthiest choice, use the wholegrain varieties, as these have more fibers and will make you feel full faster. If it’s possible, you should have at least one starchy ingredient in your meals. This won’t make you fat, even if some people think exactly the opposite. These foods contain the right carbohydrates for your organism, with half the fat or calories. Increase the Intake of Vegetables and Fruits Nutritionists say that people who want to stay healthy should have at least five different fruits and vegetables each day. This can be indeed very easy – you could take a blender and make smoothies, or you could make natural fruit juice. This will take you less than 5 minutes. You can also count the vegetables that you use for your meals, the fruits you have with your cereals or if you have something over the course of the day. Fish No, you should not go fishing, but you should increase the intake of fish. This is the best source for proteins, minerals and vitamins, omega-3 fats and plenty of other useful elements. For the best results, you should have fish at least two times per week. There are plenty options for you to choose from – canned, frozen or fresh. However, the first two contain more salt than the fresh one. Those that are high in omega-3 fats are the oily fish, like plaice, haddock, tuna, hake or skate. Less Sugar, Less Saturated Fats You need both of these in your diets, but don’t exaggerate with them. There are two types of fats – saturated and unsaturated. The saturated fat will increase the cholesterol level from your blood, leading to possible heart illnesses. You’ll find this in cakes, sausages, cheese, butter, cream, pies and lard. Instead of eating too may of these, replace them with foods that are rich in unsaturated fats, like vegetable oils, avocados or oily fish. For example, use vegetable oil instead of butter or ghee and for the meat – cut it clean, with no fat on it. Also quit drinking sweet drinks – those who contain too much sugar are definitely not good for you, and you can count here everything from sodas to alcoholic drinks. Same as sweet foods, these can lead to tooth decay or a high cholesterol level. Reduce the amount of sweets and drinks based on too much sugar, and replace them with fruits and water. These are the natural choices if you still want to intake a portion of sugar. If you’re not sure about the amount of sugar in something, check the label. The producers have to write everything on the label, so choose the products that have less than 10g of sugar per 100g of product.
